Scientific Consortium

in pursuit
of cures
Immtech has alliances with a group of talented and dedicated scientists who have spent their careers in pursuit of cures for infectious diseases.

Immtech Pharmaceuticals has an alliance with a consortium of universities and research
institute laboratories. This gives us access to accomplished scientists and development
teams whose members contribute to the discovery and development of compounds in our
medicinal chemistry library.

Two of our most widely published and respected lead scientists, Dr. Richard Tidwell and
Dr. David Boykin, have attracted a cadre of other renowned scientists to the consortium.
Together, they offer a depth of research knowledge and capabilities rivaled only by large,
multifaceted pharmaceutical companies.

Our scientists include:

Richard R. Tidwell, PhD
Head of Research
Director of the Research Consortium,
Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board

Dr. Tidwell earned his B.A. degree in Chemistry and Biology at Murray State
University and his PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of
Tennessee Medical School. He holds a joint appointment as Professor in
the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the School of
Medicine and in the Division of Medicinal Chemistry in the School of Pharmacy
at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also serves as the
Director of the UNC-CH/Gates Foundation Research Consortium and is a
consultant to a number of biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
The primary focus of Dr. Tidwell’s research is directed toward therapeutics for
and the pathogenesis of infectious diseases and structure-activity studies of
certain chemicals with regard to blood brain barrier penetration and their effect
on physiology and patho-physiology by binding to imidazoline receptors (I1 and I2).
